D.A.: No crime committed in Madison middle school incident

Dane Count District Attorney Ismael Ozanne today said no crime was committed in a recent Whitehorse Middle School incident that has become polarizing in the community and that no charges would be filed in the case.

Ozanne said he reviewed the investigation by the Madison Police Department into the incident Feb. 13 in which an administrator is accused of shoving and pulling out the braids of an 11-year-old African-American student

In a news conference earlier Tuesday, the mother of the student, Mikiea Price, said that her family had been treated poorly by school officials, police and Ozanne.

Madison Schools Superintendent Jennifer Cheatham last week said the district had failed the child, but declined comment on the specific actions of the Whitehorse Middle School staff member, who is on administrative leave.
