DODGEVILLE (WKOW) — Iowa County’s district attorney died Tuesday afternoon from a pulmonary embolism.
“Iowa County District Attorney Larry Nelson passed away unexpectedly on the afternoon of April 16 after suffering a pulmonary embolism while at his office,” the Iowa County District Attorney’s office said in a statement Friday.
“DA Nelson was well-liked and respected by his staff and colleagues alike, and he exhibited integrity beyond reproach,” the DA’s office said. “His presence at the Iowa County District Attorney’s Office will be sorely missed.”
The Iowa County DA’s office was closed Tuesday afternoon.
Nelson served as an assistant district attorney and corporation counsel of Iowa County for 17 years before being appointed as the county’s DA in 2006 by Gov. Jim Doyle, according to the statement.
“During his time as a prosecutor, Mr. Nelson was a champion for justice and a staunch advocate of victims impacted by crime in Iowa County,” the DA’s office said. “Additional information concerning funeral arrangements will be provided in the future by Mr. Nelson’s family members, who respectfully ask for privacy at this difficult time.”
