Six escape fire in Madison apartment complex

MADISON (WKOW) — There were no reports of injuries after a fire early Tuesday morning on Madison’s near east side.

Four adults and two young children were displaced from the four-unit apartment complex on the 2900 block of Hoard Street after fire broke out about 4 a.m. May 14.

When firefighters arrived they noticed black smoke coming from the back side of the building. Crews made entry and extinguished the fire within 8 minutes, according to a Madison Fire Department incident report.

Occupants evacuated safely after hearing the smoke alarms sounding throughout the building. American Red Cross is working with the families who are displaced.

There has been no determination yet on the cause or origin of the fire. Fire investigators are still on scene.
