Severe weather possible late afternoon & evening

MADISON (WKOW) – After a pleasant, mild stretch of weather, storms return as temps continue to rise.

An area of low pressure moves in Thursday allowing for scattered showers and a few claps of thunder in the mid to late morning hours.

Expect a break in the activity with some sunshine in the afternoon boosting highs to the upper 70s, making it one of the warmest days of the year so far!

More scattered storms arepossiblein the late afternoon and evening, a couple of which could be strong to severe. There’s a chance our morning round of rain could stabilize the atmosphere, suppressing the second round of storms farther south into northern Illinois. This is something we’ll be keeping a close eye on throughout the day.

THREATS

If the second round of storms develops, the main concern will be high winds up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail
