A $148 million dollar jail plan approved by Dane County Board

Protesters yelled, chanted and stomped. But despite the disruptions, Dane County supervisors have approved a $148 million dollar jail plan. It calls for an 8 story tower behind the Public Safety Building downtown, and allows the county to shut down the old, and problem plagued cells at the City County Building, along with shutting down the Ferris Huber Center. Opponents continuously interrupted speakers, including Dane County DA Ishmael Ozanne. Ozanne says he does not support increasing the number of people in jail, but says updates are necessary to create a "humane facility."

The Wisconsin State Journal reports the vote was 26 - 4 in favor of the plan, which was the least expensive of several options being considered.
