MADISON (WKOW) — The Diocese of Madison hired an independent firm to look into its files on clergy members for any signs of misconduct.
The firm is Defenbaugh and Associates, which the Diocese says is founded by and composed of veteran agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
If the investigators find any misconduct, they’ll bring it to the Diocese and the diocesan Sexual Abuse Review Board. They would also bring it to law enforcement if they uncover any potential criminal behavior.
The review was started by former Bishop Robert Morlino late last year, but was delayed by his death.
The Diocese of Madison says this reaffirms its commitment to protect children and young people, and to be open and transparent.
