Buckeye Road construction starts Monday morning

MADISON (WKOW) — Construction starts Monday on a major project to improve Buckeye Road in Madison.

Starting at 7 a.m. on June 17, Buckeye will be closed between Monona Drive and the service road just west of Stoughton Road.

Pedestrians will be able to walk on at least one side of the street at all times during the road work, including along the Lake Loop route.

This closure will continue throughout the construction project that’s expected to last until November.

Drivers should use Cottage Grove Road as a detour. Metro buses will also be detoured. That route is posted here.

Crews are rebuilding the road, adding new pavement, on-street bike lanes in both directions, parking lanes in some areas and a new sidewalk on the south side of the street.

Curb ramps, flashing yellow lights and new street lighting will be added to improve conditions for pedestrians.

The work will also include new retaining walls and upgraded sewers.

This was one of the first projects Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway addressed after taking office in April.
