Boat fire caused by lightning strike reported in Adams Co.

TOWN OF ROME (WAOW) — A motorboat is a total loss after it was struck by lightning, causing a fire in Adams County on Friday.

According to a press release from the Rome Police Department, the boat fire occurred on the 900 block of Excalibur Court at approximately 4:00 a.m.

Per the release, an officer arriving on the scene noticed a 1996 Four Winns Horizon motorboat “fully engulfed in flames.” A neighbor who reported the incident said the boat had been struck by lightning, the release adds.

The fire spread to nearby trees, according to the release, but was put out shortly after officials arrived on scene.
