Spring Green nixes recommendation for dog breeding facility

SPRING GREEN (WKOW) — The Spring Green Town Board voted 2-1 in a packed town hall Thursday night to rescind their recommendation to approve a conditional use permit for one of two buildings for a dog breeding facility.

Board Chair Kevin Lins was the dissenting vote. He previously told 27 News there is nothing illegal with the facility, which is classified as a kennel, so it must be approved.

Those who live in Spring Green and oppose the facility consider Thursday’s vote a victory and say it’s about more than animal ethics.

“Yes it’s an ethics question, but more in Spring Green it’s a groundwater, it’s a crop, it’s a land quality issue,” said resident Marnie Polivka. “So we’ve been doing a lot of research, gathering the data, and sending it to everyone we can. We are thrilled that the Town has taken a stance on this.”

Sauk County has the final say.

They will take the town’s recommendation into consideration when they vote on the permit July 23.
