Human remains found during search for missing Wisconsin brothers

CALDWELL COUNTY, MISSOURI — Authorities discovered human remains on a Missouri farm at the center of the search for two missing Shawano County brothers.

Clinton County Sheriff Larry Fish made the announcement Wednesday during a news conference on the deaths of Nick and Justin Diemel. The Shawano County brothers disappeared July 21 after visiting a farm in Missouri as part of their livestock business,WBAY-TV in Green Bay reported.

Fish said authorities found the remains July 30. They have not yet been identified. The sheriff’s office is working with forensic experts to find out if these remains belong to the Deimel brothers.

Another development Wednesday afternoon involved the Diemel’s livestock business. Court records show Nick Diemel’s wife, Lisa, filed a procedural petition to be named special administrator of the estates of Nick and Justin. The estate includes Diemel’s Livestock in Bonduel, Wisconsin. The court records filed in Shawano County show July 21 as the date of death for both Nick and Justin.

Garland “Joey” Nelson is charged with tampering with a motor vehicle in the disappearance of the Diemel brothers.

According to charging documents, Nelson “knowingly and without the consent of the owner unlawfully operated an automobile,” specifically, the Ford F-250 truck rented by the Diemel brothers, according to KMBC 9 News.

The brothers were in Missouri on a business trip. They’re from Shawano County and regularly travel to Missouri to meet with farmers.

The Clinton County sheriff previously said the search is now a death investigation, not a missing persons case.

Fish described Nelson as cooperative, but he also said Nelson has a history of misleading police. Nelson served two years in federal prison for fraud after selling cattle that didn’t belong to him.

“He has been in previous investigations, federally. That stuff plays an important role in continuing on any further crimes,” Sheriff Fish said.
