Police chase ends in fiery crash into Beaver Dam Middle School

UPDATE (WKOW) — A police chase ended with a car crashing into Beaver Dam Middle School late Wednesday night, according to the Beaver Dam Police Department.

The police chief said they were called to a domestic incident at about 11:30 p.m.

The woman, age 30, reported a verbal argument with a man she lived with, age 22, who broke a window and left the scene in a vehicle. Police say he was under the influence of alcohol.

A short time later, the suspect drove past the home and police attempted to stop him in order to investigate the domestic disturbance further.

The driver refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed, eventually traveling southbound on Grove Street.

His vehicle left the roadway and struck the North wall of the Beaver Dam Middle School, near the intersection of W. Mackie St and Grove Street, according to a news release from the Beaver Dam Police Department.

The vehicle then burst into flames and the fire was extinguished by the Beaver Dam Fire Department.

The collision caused structural damage to the building as well as damage to the electrical and water utilities.

The suspect, who police have not identified, sustained non-life threatening injuries and no other people were involved in the crash.

The suspect driver was arrested or for domestic disorderly conduct, fleeing/eluding an officer, operating while under the influence, operating while suspended, and operating without insurance.
