A woman is dead after an explosion and fire at a house in rural Richland County.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office says authorities were called to a home on County Highway U in Sylvan Township just after 10 p.m. Saturday. When officers arrived, they found a two-story home engulfed in flames.
Authorities found a woman’s body outside the home. She has been identified as 63-year-old Bonnie Strothman. Strothman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Strothman’s husband, Allen, was taken to a hospital in Viroqua with injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening.
Firefighters remained on scene for about five hours.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office says the incident is still under investigation.
