GREEN COUNTY (WKOW) — An airplane pilot called 911 from his cell phone after his plane crashed Tuesday afternoon, injuring the pilot and his passenger.
The pilot made the emergency call about 12:20 p.m. and reported that he and his passenger had suffered injuries in the crash, but both were alert and conscious.
Dispatchers determined the call came from a farm field along County Highway FF, east of Balls Mill Rd., between Monroe and Albany.
Deputies, along with ambulances from Green County EMS and Albany EMS were dispatched to the scene, as were Albany Fire Department personnel.
Green County Sheriff Jeff Skatrud says the plane’s flight originated in Rochester, Minnesota. A FAA official says the four seat, single engine Beechcraft was bound for the Chicago area.
Skatrud says the pilot reported mechanical issues and intended to land at Monroe’s airport but brought the plane in corn stalks in the field near the highway.
The Federal Aviation Administration was contacted and personnel were dispatched out of Milwaukee to respond to the crash.
