JANESVILLE (WKOW) — Janesville firefighters said they were able to put out a house fire in about 20 minutes Tuesday afternoon, but the damage had already been done.
According to a press release, the fire started around 3:50 p.m. at a home on S Edgewater St., south of the Janesville city limits in the Town of Rock.
When firefighters got there, they said there was heavy fire in the attached garage that was spreading to the rest of the home. It caused significant damage to the home and what was inside, including two vehicles. In total, it’s estimated to be $275,000.
The three people who live in the home will be displaced.
Authorities said no one was home when the fire started. Subsequently, no one was hurt.
Before that was known, someone from a Van Galder bus driving by knocked on doors to check for people inside, as did a retired Beloit firefighter.
Investigators have not determined what started the fire.
