TOWN OF WESTFORD (WKOW) — An 82-year-old woman died after a house fire in the Town of Westford Thursday night, according to fire officials.
Authorities say firefighters were called to the home at N7295 Watercress Lane just before 10:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found the woman and a 91-year-old man trapped in the basement.
They say the man was able to walk out himself while a Dodge County deputy rescued the woman from the burning home.
“You couldn’t ask for a better couple,” Matthew Breseow, a neighbor, said. “You come out every morning and she’s there waving hello. She’s out there in the evening when you come home. She’s great people.”
Both were sent to the hospital. The woman later died from her injuries. Meanwhile, the man is still recovering from his injuries, according to fire officials.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
