Inmate stabs guard at maximum security facility in Boscobel

- A correctional officer at a maximum-security facility in Boscobel was stabbed by an inmate Monday morning according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the incident that happened about 9 a.m. at the Wisconsin Secure Program Facility.

Detectives from the sheriff's office say that Dexter Ewing, 47, attacked a 42-year-old male correctional officer with a shank, which is a homemade, edged weapon.

Ewing tried to stab the correctional officer in the neck in an attempt to kill him, the sheriff's office says.

The victim and another correctional officer were able to disarm Ewing before he caused serious injury.

The deputy was taken to Gunderson Hospital in Boscobel for treatment of his injuries, which included a wound on his neck and face.

He was treated and released. This matter will be referred to the Grant County District Attorney's Office for a charge of attempted Homicide against Dexter Ewing
