MADISON (WKOW) - A major winter storm is developing and moving towards the Upper Midwest.
TODAY
After Thursday's rain, untreated pavement may still be a bit slippery as temps fall below freezing this morning.
The daylight hours remain quiet with increasing clouds and highs in the mid 30s.
TONIGHT
Winter storm warnings are in effect for Dane, Lafayette, Green, Jefferson, Rock and Walworth counties from 7 pm this evening through 6 am Sunday.
Winter storm watches are in effect for the rest of the WKOW area.
Snow will develop from SW to NE after the evening commute.
SATURDAY
Expect a lull in precipitation in the morning before snow redevelops in the afternoon and evening. Snow will be heavy at times.
Blowing and drifting is also likely with a strong wind out of the NNE gusting up to 35 mph. This will cause temps to fall through the day.
Near whiteout conditions will make driving treacherous. Travel is not advised Saturday later afternoon through the overnight hours.
