Two arrested in connection with 2019 Beloit homicide

Beloit police today announced the arrest of two men connected to the shooting death in 2019 of Treron White.

Gregory Carter and Anthony Sims are now in police custody, Beloit Police Chief David Zibolsky said in a Friday morning news conference.

White, 21, of Beloit, died at the scene and two others, one a 15-year-old boy, were injured and taken to the hospital March 11, 2019 after the shooting.

Carter and Sims face possible charges including first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Carter turned himself in and Sims is in custody in Winnebago County on other charges, Zibolsky said.

Carter was originally arrested days after the shooting, but was released from jail without charges after the Wisconsin Department of Justice reviewed the case, officials said at the time.

The DOJ reviewed the case because they became the prosecuting agency after the Rock County District Attorney’s Office recused itself. An official with the Rock County DA’s office said a staff member is related to one of the shooting victims.

A complicating factor in the investigation, Zibolski said, was the shooting involved a “large confrontation” between many people at the scene near the intersection of Elm Street and Roosevelt Avenue.
