4-year-old hurt in Madison shooting

Madison police say a 4-year-old accidentally shot himself in the foot early Wednesday while handling a gun.

Investigators say the gun was in a location accessible to the child and that the he was handling the gun when it went off, striking him in the foot, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

UPDATE (WKOW) -- A 4-year-old was taken to the hospital early Wednesday morning with a gunshot wound to the foot, according to the Madison Police Department.

Police were called to the 5900 block of Jackson Quarry Lane just after 12:30 a.m. for a report of a gunshot victim.

When they arrived, they discovered a 4-year-old had been shot in the foot.

Officers talked to everyone on the scene at the time of the shooting and they said there is no ongoing threat to the community.

MPD is investigating the incident as an accident.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police say they're investigating a shooting on Jackson Quarry Ln. on the east side of the city.

Officers say they were called to the scene at around 12:30 Wednesday morning. One person was taken to the hospital.

Police haven't said if they've made any arrests.
