MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison Common Council made several big decisions during its first-ever virtual meeting Tuesday.
The city leaders made it clear they are against stationing F-35 fighter jets at Truax Field. They also gave the go-ahead to the Amazon project on the city's east side.
The council met virtually Tuesday night, with the meeting spilling into the early morning hours of Wednesday.
The main concern regarding F-35s were the "significant environmental impacts" of the jets, including noise pollution and groundwater contamination.
Supporters say the negative effects have been exaggerated and the planes will boost the local economy.
Another big topic up for discussion was the Amazon distribution center planned for Milwaukee Street.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, the council voted 14-6 to overrule aprior Plan Commission decisionthat denied a portion of the Amazon project.
Amazon was already able to use land for the distribution facility, but it needed the approval to change parking and stormwater management at the location.
The project will now move forward.
