The Madison Metropolitan School District will reopen its search for a superintendent this May.
The announcement came from School Board President Gloria Reyes on a press call Tuesday afternoon.
Interviews with new candidates will begin in June.
The school board made the decision on how to proceed at a closed session meeting Monday night, Reyes said.
District leaders had, after a months-long search, tapped Matthew Gutierrez to be the next superintendent. Gutierrez initially accepted the job but then rescinded saying that he could not leave his current district given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
