FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- Fitchburg Fire Department responded to an apartment fire on the 3100 block of Seminole Highway on Thursday evening.
Dane County Dispatch says the call came in at 8:13 p.m. Several agencies are responded.
It took firefighters less than 30 minutes to fully extinguish the fire and command was able to start returning units from neighboring departments.
The effected building is a side-by-side two-unit apartment building. The unit of origin has heavy fire and smoke damage and the neighboring unit has smoke damage. Both residents of the building were able to safely evacuate prior to the fire department’s arrival. The American Red Cross has been put in contact with the occupants to provide assistance as needed.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time and is currently under investigation by the Fitchburg Fire Department. Damages are estimated to be in excess of $200,000.
