MADISON (WKOW) -- A Dane County judge has ordered a competency evaluation for the Madison man accused of killing an 81-year-old neighbor in May.
Saynit Keokanya, 38, appeared virtually in court Thursday morning for a preliminary hearing. A Hmong translator was used to help him better understand the discussion.
His defense lawyer requested a competency evaluation and the judge allowed it.
Keokanya ischarged with first-degree intentional homicidein the death of 81-year-old Nang Yee Lee. Lee was found in his apartment, critically injured. He died at the hospital three days later.
Keokanya is scheduled to appear in court for a competency hearing July 28 at 8 a.m.
