Crashes kill one on eastbound Interstate-94 near Deerfield

One person is dead following a crash on eastbound Interstate-94 near the Highway 73 exit north of Deerfield Friday afternoon.

News of the death came from a press release from the Wisconsin State Patrol sent Friday evening.

All lanes of the interstate, both east and westbound were closed to allow Med-flight to land. The person died while Med-flight was still at the scene.

One other person was injured.

The press release said a series of crashes occurred around 3:30 p.m. near the 251 mile marker.

An incident notification from the Department of Transportation estimated the interstate would remain closed for two hours.

The DOT's online map indicated the eastbound I-94 remained closed up to the Highway 89 exit in Lake Mills.

Highway cameras showed traffic backing up in both directions.

Officers from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall Police Department, Dane County EMS & Fire and Med-flight responded to the scene
