Man arrested after hatchet attack on Madison’s north side

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police say a man was arrested early Monday morning after he allegedly hit another person in the head with a hatchet.

Police say officers were called to the 1800 block of Roth Street just before 12:20 a.m. for a weapons violation.

A 42-year-old man was taken to the hospital after officers arrived at the scene. They say the victim was treated and released from the hospital with a non-life-threatening wound to the head.

Police say the attack happened during an argument that appeared to be over the "theft of an object." They say the suspect, a 53-year-old man, hit the victim in the head with the back end of a hatchet.

The suspect was taken to the Dane County Jail and tentatively charged with substantial battery, according to police.
