Calling all cheeseheads, a new mac and cheese restaurant is now open in Milwaukee.

According to TMJ 4, the Mac Shack opened on Brady Street and the menu is full of creamy, cheesy, deliciousness.

"I just wanted to make mac and cheese a little more fun," co-owner Chela Maldonado-Perez said.

The restaurant has been in the works for five to six years. When the pandemic happened, there were issues with permits and contractors, so the opening was postponed even longer. They are still experiencing some minor problems as they open, so they decided to open for a soft launch. "We still have food order delays. We still have workers that can't come. We still have a staff shortage, so we're just working through it, so that’s when we decided just to open," Maldonado-Perez told TMJ 4.

The menu has a creative twist on mac and cheese. OnMilwaukee reported that the new restaurant features gourmet dishes like:

  • Brady Street Mac - chili, cheddar, fried onion straws and hot dogs
  • Buffalo Chicken Mac - breaded chicken, buffalo sauce, green onion, hot Cheetos
  • Elote Mac - cilantro pesto, sweet corn, cotija cheese, crema, hot Cheetos
  • Greek Freak Mac - grilled chicken, veggies, goat cheese and tzatziki

The restaurant opened Monday, August 2, for its soft launch. The Mac Shack's current hours are from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Business hours will be extended at a later date; you can visit the Mac Shack's Facebook page for all updates on the restaurant.
