Zach Braff and Donald Faison’s real life friendship is one of the most charming things about their Scrubs rewatch podcast Fake Doctors, Real Friends. When they’re cracking jokes or calling each other names, it’s hard not to grin like an idiot while listening along. But it’s also so fun to get to know their other Scrubs family, who are frequently invited on to talk about their memories from behind the scenes – especially creator Bill Lawrence, who from time to time is called upon, in their “Ask Bill” segment, to answer some burning question they have. On this episode, those two wonderful things collide when Zach tells Donald all about attending the Governor’s Ball Music Festival with Bill to see his daughter Charlotte Lawrence perform.
Zach praises Charlotte’s performance, telling Donald and their producers Joelle and Dan all about how she handled the amount of fans and all the pressure of a giant crowd really well, and was able to make a joke out of any time they messed up. But one of the best parts of her show was watching Bill, he tells them: “There’s a Yiddish expression called ‘kvelling,’ my father used to say it all the time, it means when your heart is just so full of pride and you’re just beaming….He was just kvelling watching his daughter own the stage.”
After her set was over, they decided to wander over and see Megan Thee Stallion and “I wish you could have had a camera on me and Bill watching Meg Stallion and her dancers dance very, very, very provocatively,” Zach laughs. They only stayed for two songs (“I don’t know which, but there was heavy twerking in both”) before leaving to watch Phoebe Bridgers “which was a little more our speed,” he chuckles. But Donald is proud: “I love it. I appreciate that you two went out and got a little bit of culture,” he tells Zach. Later, they do have to “Ask Bill” something, and Bill jokes: “You know what you guys should Ask Bill? You should ask Bill: How are you feeling? How are you doing? Are you lonely?’” Unfortunately, they didn’t ask him about his reaction to Megan Thee Stallion, but we do get to hear about how hard the Scrubs writers worked to make their show medically realistic – even to the point of repeating a joke. Hear their hilarious conversation and Scrubs recap on this episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends.
