2 charged with child sex crimes leading up to girl's death in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Wis. (WKOW) — Two people are formally charged with multiple felonies in connection the death of a 14-year-old girl on Sunday. The charges stem from an investigation surrounding the teen's death that uncovered evidence of sexual assault and exploitation.

Alyssa Ahrens, 20, and Hunter Drefahl, 26, both of Evansville, are each charged with second-degree sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age and sexual exploitation of a child - produce, perform etc.

Ahrens is also charged with three counts of possession of child pornography and one count of possession of methamphetamine.

Drefahl faces five counts of possession of child pornography.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Rock County Circuit Court, officers responded to a home on South Madison Street in Evansville the morning of April 6 after receiving a report of a 14-year-old girl, who family identified to 27 News as Florencia Henthorn, with a gunshot wound to her head.

She was taken to Mercy Hospital before being flown to UW Hospital, but she couldn't be saved. Florencia died Sunday afternoon.

The investigation revealed evidence suggesting that both Drefahl and Ahrens had been having sexual contact with Florencia and sharing recordings of that contact.

The complaint details text message conversations and videos found on the victim's phone, showing sexual acts between her, Drefahl and Ahrens. The videos were shared with others and that upset Florencia, according to the complaint. She then "blew up" on Ahrens and said things like "You guys aren't selling my body."

The argument took place hours before her death.

Drefahl told police he believed Henthorn shot herself using one of his guns.

If convicted, Drefahl and Ahrens each face more than 100 years in prison and more than $200,000 in fines.

The two appeared in court on Tuesday. Records show Drefahl was given a $750,000 cash bond. Ahrens was given a $500,000 cash bond. Both were ordered not to have contact with Florencia's family.

GoFundMe page has been set up to support Florencia's family.
