Hail damages homes, vehicles in southern Wisconsin

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (WKOW) -- Lynette Bloom and her husband Butch haven't experienced a bad hail storm in years. But Friday morning, they woke up to a sight all too familiar.

"Look at all the glass, it even broke my first aid kit," said Lynette, opening the trunk of her SUV. The entire back window was shattered.

Lynette only had one payment left on her car. She's still finding golf ball sized hail inside.

Lynette runs a daycare from her home called Little Bloomers Family Daycare. Nearly all of the children's toys outside were destroyed.

"The lawnmower got destroyed, the wheelbarrow got destroyed," said Lynette, walking around the play area.

Even the pink slide that Lynette said the kids were just playing on yesterday was damaged.

While walking around her house, she was finding new wreckage, like a pile of debris on her roof.

And, holes — everywhere.

“Look on the ground, it's just peppered all over,” said Butch.

“My grandpa always said you’ve got to plant potatoes on Good Friday, so I’m like, well now they’re planted with hail,” Lynette said.

But the Blooms are now working on their insurance claims and starting the cleanup process. Despite the damages to a good portion of their property, Lynette and Butch are still in high spirits.

“There’s no use getting hysterical, you know, just stay calm,” said Lynette.

“Life is too short to get all worked up like that,” Butch added. “Fun part about living in Wisconsin.”
