1 man hurt in shooting on Madison's south side, suspect in custody

MADISON (WKOW) — One person was hurt and one person is in custody after a shooting on Madison's south side Tuesday morning.

Madison police officers were called to the 2000 block of Baird Street around 8 a.m., according to spokesperson Stephanie Fryer.

One person was hurt and taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to police. The suspect left the scene but was later detained by Fitchburg police.

The shooting appears to have happened inside a building, police reported.

Police believe the suspect, a 25-year-old man, and victim, identified as a man in his 40s, know each other.

The area around Baird Street was blocked off for a brief time while police searched for the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.
