COTTAGE GROVE, Wis. (WKOW) -- Police have confirmed one person was killed when a car crashed into a family walking with their dog Monday evening in Cottage Grove.
The husband of the woman who died told 27 News her name is Dr. Kami Hansen. She's a chiropractor with Heartland Family Chiropractic. The business announced her death this morning on its Facebook page.
A staff member of Heartland Family Chiropractic told 27 News Hansen was one of two chiropractors at the office, but all of Hansen's patients were still being seen Tuesday.
The Village of Cottage Grove Police Department reported the crash happened around 6:35 p.m. Monday on Landmark Drive. Three people were taken to the hospital, including Hansen. Police said she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Two others are still in the hospital, including Hansen's child. Police confirmed the family dog also died in the crash.
Police are investigating what led up to the crash. They said speed was a factor but the "actions and motivations of an individual involved are the subject of an ongoing investigation in partnership with the Dane County District Attorney's Office."
Police told 27 News on Monday night, the driver was cooperating with the investigation.
Hansen was an active member of the Cottage Grove community. A Facebook post by the Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce said Hansen was a Board Director for six years and was on two committees. The post announced a memorial fund for the Hansen family.
