PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (WKOW) -- UW-Platteville officials released the causes of death for two students who died following a disturbance at Wilgus Hall on Monday.
According to a campus spokesperson, when police arrived at the residence hall, they found Kelsie Martin and Hallie Helms, 22, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Martin, 22, of Beloit was taken to Southwest Health, then flown by Med Flight to UW Hospital. She was pronounced dead at UW Hospital. A preliminary autopsy showed she died from her gunshot wounds.
Helms, 22, of Baraboo died at the scene. Preliminary autopsy results indicate she died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Martin was the Wilgus Hall Assistant Resident Director and a psychology major. Helms was a Wilgus Hall resident and an elementary education major. Both women were listed as graduates in UW-Platteville’s commencement program last weekend.
UW-Platteville officials said no one else was involved in the disturbance and shooting. Police are still investigating what led up to their deaths. Anyone with information is asked to contact the UW-Platteville Police Department at 608-342-1584.
