Hazardous materials team called to West Skyline Drive in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) — Madison's hazardous materials response team was called to West Skyline Drive Monday to assist law enforcement in an investigation.

The team was first assigned to the investigation at about 2 p.m., according to Madison Fire Department spokesperson Cynthia Schuster.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is leading the investigation. The DCI, along with law enforcement and fire agencies were executing a search warrant in the area of W Skyline Drive and South Highlands Avenue to assist in an ongoing investigation, according to DOJ spokesperson Riley Vetterkind.

Laurie Lata is the contact person for the Skyview Terrace Neighborhood Association. She spoke with authorities at the blockade. They told her no one was allowed out of East or West Skyline at the intersection with North and South Highlands, by car or walking.

Everyone who made it through the intersection earlier in the day were in their homes.

One person was seen being taken on a stretcher to an ambulance to be evaluated. That person, who appeared to be part of the team investigating, was awake and alert. They were not taken to a hospital.
