TOWN OF MIDDLETON, Wis. (WKOW) — The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double homicide in the town of Middleton.
Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett said a caller reported finding two people unresponsive at a home on the 8500 block of Stonebrook Circle, just off of Airport Road, at 2:21 p.m. Tuesday. When deputies got to the home, they found a man and woman were dead.
The Dane County Sheriff's Office says before deputies got to the scene, the suspect drove off.
A short time later, the Wisconsin State Patrol located that vehicle in Vernon County. State troopers and officers with the Vernon County Sheriff's Office stopped the vehicle. Authorities say the driver refused to comply with verbal commands and that led to a standoff. The standoff ended when the suspect took his own life. The Vernon County Sheriff's Office is now investigating this portion of the case.
In Dane County, detectives and the Crime Scene Unit are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the double homicide.
Sheriff Barrett shared his condolences with the victims' family members and community.
“We understand this news is alarming, and we want the community to know this is an ongoing priority for our agency,” Barrett said. “We will continue to share more details as they become available and when appropriate to protect the investigation's integrity."
The identities and causes of death of the town of Middleton victims will be determined by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
