UWPD finds training grenade in UW Arboretum, no further danger reported

MADISON (WKOW) — The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department is clearing the scene of an area where a suspicious package was found Monday morning at the UW Arboretum.

UWPD sent out an urgent alert around 10 a.m. through the BadgerSAFE app, telling the public to avoid the area near the east side of the Arboretum. They later called in the bomb squad to investigate a suspicious package found on a path.

A spokesperson for UWPD told 27 News that investigators located a training grenade. It had no explosive power and appeared to be old.

UWPD were clearing barricades and reopening Arboretum Drive following the discovery. There is no further danger to the public.
