Hoax weapon threat puts Middleton schools on alert

MIDDLETON, Wis. (WKOW) — A report of a person with a weapon in the Middleton High School parking lot Wednesday turned out to be hoax, with the call originating from outside of the U.S., according to communication from the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District.

Middleton city schools were placed under a Secure protocol after an anonymous tip reported a person with a weapon in the Middleton High School parking lot. The Middleton Police Department received the tip on its non-emergency line and investigated its credibility.

The Secure protocol was a precautionary measure affecting Middleton High School and several other schools, including Clark Street Community School and Kromrey Middle. This action locks all doors but allows learning to continue inside, ensuring safety while the situation is assessed.

Later, the Secure protocol was lifted after the police determined the tip was a hoax. The call was traced to an international source. The district thanked families for their cooperation and emphasized the importance of safety in schools.
