3 teens arrested in brutal attack on student at Madison West High School

MADISON (WKOW) — Three teenagers have been arrested for their involvement in the brutal attack of a student at Madison West High School.

The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 15. Police said a student was hospitalized after a battery at the school.

Video of the incident was shared with 27 News last week. 27 News has not aired the video yet, but has reviewed it and verified its authenticity with the Madison Metropolitan School District. The video shows teenagers beating and kicking a student while they are on the ground in a bathroom at the school.

Madison West Principal Daniel Kigeya mentioned how he felt moments after watching the video.

"It's disturbing and disheartening because it's not the community we pride ourselves here at Madison West." Kigeya said. 

He also mentions how they are supporting the victim.  

"I can't say much, but I can say we are doing our job to maintain that relationship with the student in the family. We want to be supportive of their healing."

The Madison Police Department confirmed Thursday three people have been arrested in connection with the crime.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested for first-degree reckless injury - as a party to a crime and battery - as a party to a crime.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested for first-degree reckless injury - as a party to a crime and battery - as a party to a crime.

Those two teens were taken to the Juvenile Reception Center.

Additionally, a 17-year-old boy was arrested and issued an order-in court date for battery and disorderly conduct. None of the teens have been formally charged.

Hunter Lisko, a Madison Police officer also mentioned safety is there top priority. 

"Madison Police Department takes safety in our schools seriously. We feel fortunate that we continue to partner with the Madison Metro School District, and we're always working towards the best possible outcome for students involved making sure that they're safe in their schools."

There's been no update yet on the condition of the victim in this case.

The investigation is ongoing.
