Crews respond to fire in downtown Monroe

MONROE, Wis. (WKOW) — Fire crews responded to a structure fire Thursday in downtown Monroe. 

Police dispatch told 27 News the fire was located on the east side of the Monroe downtown square.

Pictures posted online showed thick smoke rising from a building with firefighters on scene at the back of the structure holding hoses.

A witness told 27 News the fire started on the patio at Bartel's & Co tap before spreading. 

There have been no reports of injuries. The Red Cross is assisting residents who were displaced.

At about 12:30 p.m., the fire appeared to be mostly under control with firefighters continuing to check for hot spots.

In a Facebook post Thursday night, the Monroe Fire Department said property owners and tenants are scheduled to be allowed back into affected properties at 8 a.m. on Friday
