Also, a personal story for Dr. Jim. Deanne Niedziela, a nurse he has worked with for many years who oversees the Spine & Neuroscience Institute and Acute Care Service for Mission Hospital, suffered a severe injury while on vacation in Costa Rica.
Over Memorial Day weekend, Deanne was hiking with her husband near a waterfall when a tree limb fell on her. She suffered a major spine injury that could potentially leave her paralyzed. Deanne has already undergone hours of surgery in Costa Mesa, but once she's stable, she will need to be transported back to the U.S. Given her condition; she needs to be on a stretcher and can not tolerate multiple stops, so a large private jet like a Gulfstream would be required. The cost of that transport could run up to $100,000.
A GoFundMe page has been started to help raise the money to get her home.
