The Milwaukee Brewers were shut out in back to back games for the first time since 2019 as the Crew fell to the Padres on Saturday 4-0 after a 7-0 loss the night before.
Mackenzie Gore shut down the Brewers offense, striking out 10 and scattering just three hits, all singles, in six innings of work. Aaron Ashby pitched well for the Brewers, but had some unlucky breaks as soft contact by Padres hitters fell in for base hits and got him in some trouble.
In the third inning, after an overturned out call at first base, the third inning continued with two outs for Jake Cronenworth, who doubled to left and the ball hit off the side wall to allow Sergio Alcantara to score. Then in the fifth, a pair of singles put runners on the corners for San Diego. A soft grounder to Kolten Wong allowed Jose Azocar to score from 3rd to make it 2-0 Padres. Immediately after, Jake Cronenworth hit a two run homer to right, barely over the outstretched glove of Tyrone Taylor.
The Brewers are at the tail end of an 18 game in 17 day stretch and it's showing. The offense has been lackluster of late and the upcoming off day on Monday will be helpful.
