Haaland electric debut as City escapes rainy Lambeau with win

Making his Manchester City debut, 22-year old budding superstar Erling Haaland scored just 12 minutes in and it held up as the Premier League champions edged out German powerhouse Bayern Munich 1-0 in front of a sellout crowd of 78,128 at Lambeau Field.

Seemingly reacting to Haaland’s fireworks, a second lightning storm halted play for nearly an hour and sent players and fans scurrying for shelter.

In the match’s 40th minute, Haaland appeared to have scored again, but Bernardo Silva was offside before feeding him.

Perhaps out of an abundance of caution because of the wet field, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola replaced Haaland to begin the second half.

"He scored a goal, it's important, these type of balls in front of the keeper always he's there," said Guardiola.

"The first minutes, he needs more rhythm more time. Already had 40 minutes, that's good for him. We see how he reacts to the niggles he had in previous weeks. When we're back we have long weeks to prepare for weekend games and this period, 2, 3 weeks we will get the best from him.”
