The Racine County District Attorney's Office received 11 complaints from residents that their signatures were forged on petitions to recall Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos. Those residents swore affidavits confirming that they did not sign the petition and a criminal investigation is ongoing.
Among them were Sam Wahlen, a Yorkville man active in Republican politics who told "The Dan O'Donnell Show" on Tuesday that while his signature appeared on the petition, he did not sign it. After Wahlen appeared on "The Dan O'Donnell Show," Burlington resident Phil Hein called in to report that he and his wife also had their signatures forged.
Wisconsin Right Now reported Wednesday that Preston Kite, the Kenosha County Sheriff's deputy charged with multiple counts of bestiality and child sex crimes, also signed the recall on February 27th even though he has been in the Kenosha County Jail since February 4th.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission determined after a preliminary review on Tuesday that recall organizers did not gather enough signatures to force a recall election against Vos, who has served in the Assembly since 2005 and was elected Speaker in 2011.
The Racine County District Attorney's Office is urging anyone who believes their signature may have been forged to call 262-994-1083 to speak with an investigator.
