Winter storm will exit by mid-morning

MADISON (WKOW) – A winter storm that dumped several inches of snow last night in southern Wisconsin will continue to move out of the area this morning.  Areas near the Illinois border picked up more than seven inches as of 4:19 am and counting.  Winds will also be an impact as it’s likely to have some snow drifts and areas with blowing snow.

Slow will taper by mid to late morning.   If you are out early this morning, then expect snow covered roads.  Take your time and leave plenty of room between you and the next vehicle.  Clouds will slowly break today eventually becoming partly sunny by late afternoon and early evening.  Lows will drop in the single digits tonight, so areas of black ice will be an issue tomorrow morning and even going into Monday morning as lows will fall below zero.

The sun will come out tomorrow, but it will be very frigid with high temperatures only going into the single digits and lower teens.  We’re tracking some more snow possible for Monday night into Tuesday.

Madison is expected to see snow totals of up to 6 inches. Verona reports 6.1 inches Saturday morning, while Deerfield measures 4.5 inches of snow.
