Sun Prairie ambulance involved in crash, driver of other vehicle fled scene

SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- A Sun Prairie ambulance was involved in a two-vehicle crash late Thursday night leaving two paramedics with minor injuries. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene.

A press release overnight said it happened at about 11:30 p.m. on US Highway 151 near the intersection of North Bristol Street.

Authorities said a Sun Prairie Ambulance was transporting a "non-emergency" patient to a local hospital when it was struck from behind by a private vehicle.

The patient was not hurt, but both paramedics suffered minor injuries. They were taken to the hospital and later released.

“I am grateful that our paramedics were not badly injured and that they will return home safely to their families tonight. They will have some time off to rest and we look forward to having them back to work soon,” said EMS Chief Brian Goff.

The driver of the car that hit the ambulance fled the scene, according to officials. There is now an active police investigation.

The ambulance was not badly damaged and could still be driven.
