MONONA, Wis. (WKOW) -- Monona police are asking for the public's help in locating a suspect believed to be involved in numerous retail thefts from Madison area stores.

Monona Police Chief Brian Chaney said an MOPD sergeant saw the suspect's vehicle Tuesday morning on West Broadway.

Chaney said the suspect had recently stolen property from a box retailer in Monona. The sergeant attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver quickly accelerated onto W/B Highway 12.

The driver went on the shoulder and eventually into the closed flex lane. Based on the volume of traffic, the sergeant stopped the pursuit, Chaney said.

It was reported that the suspect driver, continuing on, sideswiped another vehicle when navigating around traffic near John Nolen Drive. The suspect driver did not stop.

The Madison Police Department investigated the hit-and-run crash.

Multiple area police agencies have cases involving this vehicle. Chaney is asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of this vehicle and/or suspect to contact the police.

A photo of the vehicle is pictured above. Police did not release information on what the suspect looks like.

Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward by contacting the Madison Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 266-6014 or online at P3TIPS.com.

The suspect vehicle (pictured) is a blue, 2002 Chevrolet Blazer. The Wisconsin registration illegally displayed to the rear of the vehicle is a plate of: “AMY-8493”
