FITCHBURG, Wis. (WKOW) -- Fitchburg police reported "concerning flyers" had been distributed to homes in a neighborhood south of McKee Road.
A news release stated the department received multiple reports of the flyers. Similar flyers have been distributed in nearby communities over the past few weeks.
Fitchburg police said the flyers indicate they came from a group that has been identified as a hate group by multiple organizations. However, the department did not specify what the organization was or provide details about the flyers to "limit the potential spread of the message."
"The Fitchburg Police Department is committed to being a partner for a safe and peaceful community," a news release stated.
Fitchburg Mayor Julia Arata-Fratta also responded to the reports of the flyer.
"This morning, I was made aware that some residents in our city received flyers containing deeply disturbing and hateful language," Mayor Arata-Fratta wrote in a statement. "Let me be clear: I strongly condemn this kind of speech. Hate has no place in our community, regardless of claims about free speech protections. We will not tolerate language or actions that target, intimidate, or seek to divide us. We are a city that values diversity, inclusivity, and respect for all. We stand united against hate."

If anyone feels unsafe or threatened, Fitchburg police said to contact them or call 911 in an emergency.
