MADISON (WKOW) — The Dane County Humane Society is asking for the community's help in caring for two bobcats.
They need to raise $5,000 to cover the cost of caring for the bobcats. The cats are from the Verona area and have been at their Wildlife Center for the last six months.
The bobcats were dehydrated and malnourished when they were admitted as orphaned bobkittens a few days apart in August 2024.
They're believed to be brothers, and are estimated at just 12 to 16 weeks old.
The bobkittens were in critical condition upon arrival and received immediate care and medical treatment.
“These orphaned bobcats are getting a second chance at life thanks to our dedicated wildlife rehabilitators, but we need our community’s help to keep them safe, fed, and thriving. Just feeding these bobcats costs $200 per week,” said Lisa Bernard, development and communications supervisor. “We’re turning to our incredible community members to help us raise $5,000 to support their care. Thanks to a generous matching gift from DCHS donors Steve and Margie Holzhueter, donations will be DOUBLED up to $2,500 when you give by Friday, February 21st.”
In addition to food, the bobcats required a specially designed enclosure that staff retrofitted to ensure their safety.
The Wildlife Center team hopes to release the bobcats back to their native territory in the spring, but they’ll need specialized equipment to safely transport them to their release site.
