SPRINGFIELD, Wis. (WKOW) — One person was found dead after a structure fire on Meffert Road in the town of Springfield on Wednesday night.
Emergency services responded to the fire at 10:15 p.m. after a passerby reported seeing flames, according to a press release.
Several fire departments, along with Madison Gas & Electric and the Salvation Army, assisted in the response in the 6300 block of Meffert Road.
After several hours of searching, authorities found a body inside the home.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Madison Area Fire Investigation Team, and Wisconsin Department of Justice are investigating.
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the person who died once their family has been notified.
