18-year-old sentenced in connection to Lux apartment mass shooting

MADISON (WKOW) -- A man convicted in connection to the Lux apartment shooting was sentenced on Monday.

A judge imposed and stayed a three year prison sentence for 18-year-old Will Williams. That means if his probation is revoked for any reason, he will be sentenced to three years in prison and three years extended supervision.

At least 12 people were hurt at the rooftop party, some from broken glass and others with gunshot wounds.

A criminal complaint said Williams told police he fired one shot into the ground after he heard the first shot go off.

In August, a Madison police detective told 27 News they believe more than one shooter was at the party and said they had multiple people of interest along with Williams.

Madison police confirmed there have been no additional arrests or persons of interest after Williams' sentencing.

About 250 people were on the Lux apartment rooftop the night of the shooting, most of whom were high school aged.

When Dane County Judge Mario White delivered William's sentencing, he said he's beginning to live the rest of his live, but it's up to him what he does with it.

"If you engage in behavior that gets you revoked, then you will go to prison for three years, so it's up to you what you do over the next several years while you're on on probation," White said. "I hope you are successful."

In court, Williams apologized to the victims, victims' families and his community.

Williams originally told police he wasn't at the Lux the night of the shooting, but later admitted he was there and said he threw the gun away after the shooting. Police said his story changed several times as to where he got rid of it.

Madison police ask anyone with information on the shooting to submit a tip which can be done through Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014 or submit a tip online at p3tips.com.
