Tracking Wintry Mix for this Afternoon into Tomorrow Morning

Winter weather is picking up in southern Wisconsin. We saw some snowfall last night that has now ended, but we are tracking more precipitation this afternoon. Though we are done with falling snow for this morning, we will continue to see cloudy skies and slippery roads; give yourself more time as you leave the house. Temperatures will increase throughout the day, warming up into the low 30s by late afternoon.

Frozen precipitation returns to southwestern Wisconsin around 4 PM. This will expand to most of southern Wisconsin by 6 PM and continue through tomorrow morning. While the air temperatures will hit or get above freezing, ground temperatures will still be very cold. That means any precip hitting the ground (snow showers, freezing rain, or sleet) will freeze and cause slippery conditions for your commute home. These warmer temps will also affect how much accumulated snow we get. The most likely range for much of our region will be 1-3" by 8 AM tomorrow, but the main threat with this storm will be ice accumulations. Travel tonight and Wednesday morning will see the greatest impact, but as with any ice event, downed powerlines and tree branches are a concern.
